User Guide for Students and Teachers

Below, you can find more information on how to use the Helping Paw system.

Note: This will not include technical details, as the internals are not public. This is more of a User Guide.

First, ensure your access has been organised with the developer before continuing!

IMPORTANT MESSAGE

PLEASE CLOSE THE APP WHEN NOT IN CLASS TO AVOID UNNECESSARY RESOURCE USAGE. THANK YOU.

Students

Logging in

To log into Helping Paw, you are given a username and passcode. Please contact the IT staff if you have lost your login.

Request Sending

When sending a request, be careful what option you select! You cannot go back!

You can either send a request from:

  • The main interface on the app
  • The paw icon on the Menu Bar (If using the Helping Paw MacOS extension COMING SOON)

When you send a request, it should appear on the teacher's panel within a very short amount of time. If it does not, there is an issue. Refer to the issues section.

You are blocked from sending further requests until the teacher has accepted the current request.

Teachers

Logging in

To log into Helping Paw, use your school email. Please contact the IT staff if you have lost your login. If it does not let you in, you have signed in with the wrong email, or you are not present in the database.

The Teacher Panel

Reporting an issue, suggesting features, and asking questions

Issues

If there is something wrong with your app, please follow this process!

  1. Firstly, please talk to your teacher to see what has happened, check if they are involved. Please do not report a teacher not receiving a request unless you have made sure the teacher did check and did not receive it. Do the problem solving you can first please!
  2. Next, check the issues page for if this already exists, please avoid reporting things that have already been reported.
  3. If the error is still unsolved, please create an issue with the 'Bug' tag. Make sure to include:
    • The date and time of the issue
    • The current class/event
    • The exact steps you and the teacher took that lead to this error
I will respond when I next log on and check.
  4. If it is an urgent, app-breaking issue like request sending is down, contact me via the contact form on the Sequoia Support Page. I will take a look when I can, and try and fix the issue to the best of my ability. Make sure you create an issue as well!

Feature Suggestions

If you have something you think would be nice to add to the app, please follow this process!

  1. Go to the issues page, as this is also used for suggestions.
  2. Check for existing suggestions and please make sure it has not already been suggested.
  3. If your idea is not there, create an issue with the 'Enhancement' tag.
  4. I will respond when I next check!

Questions

  • For urgent questions please ask IT, if they cannot help, contact me via the contact form on the Sequoia Support Page.
  • For non-urgent questions, please visit the issues page. It is used for questions too!
  • Check if your question has already been answered, if not, create an issue with the 'Question' tag.
  • I will respond when I can!
